    From GEROVITAL to LONGEVITAL<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    How two life journeys came together to form a new vision of healthy and fulfilling ageing<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    LONGEVITAL\u2019s roots go back to the 1970s in Sibiu, Romania \u2013 to a family of doctors for whom health, medicine and questions about ageing were part of everyday life.<\/p>

    Dr Mircea Dumitru, a friend of Corina\u2019s father, was a close colleague of Prof. Ana Aslan and one of the leading figures in Romanian gerontology.<\/p>

    It was as a teenager that Corina Steuernagel first came across the concepts of healthy ageing, vitality and quality of life \u2013 decades before longevity became a global trend.<\/p>

    At that time, one term came to define this movement:<\/p>

    GEROVITAL \u2013 the idea of maintaining vitality in old age. The gerontologist Prof. Dr Dr Ana Aslan (1897\u20131988) is now regarded as one of the most important pioneers of modern longevity medicine.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Corina was fascinated by these thoughts. She was actually supposed to study medicine. In fact, her wish was to study under Dr Dumitru in Bucharest himself. But life took her down a different path.<\/p>

    She began to explore another question:<\/p>

    What is it that truly brings a person to life?<\/p>

    After moving to Germany, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to dermatological cosmetics and medical skin rejuvenation.<\/p>

    But she soon realised that vitality isn\u2019t just a matter of skin.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    People don\u2019t just age biologically. They age in the way they present themselves. In their demeanour. In their clothing. In their relationships. In the spaces around them.<\/p>

    Over many years, she developed this into the Skin3 concept: our body is our first skin. Our second skin is the way we express ourselves through clothing and style. Our third skin is the environment in which we live.<\/p>

    At the same time, she immersed herself in Zen, Daoism, wabi-sabi and kintsugi \u2013 those Far Eastern philosophies that seek beauty not in perfection, but in maturation, authenticity and lived experience.<\/p>

    This led to a realisation: vitality is not just a biological concept. It also has aesthetic, emotional, social and cultural dimensions.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Whilst Corina was following this path, Ralph\u2019s search led him to a different starting point.<\/p>

    As part of his training in naturopathy, psychology and health sciences, he travelled to northern India, to the Himalayas. There he discovered Ayurveda \u2013 arguably the oldest system of health and longevity in human history.<\/p>

    He was particularly fascinated by Rasayana<\/em>:
    That branch of Ayurveda which has, for thousands of years, focused on regeneration, vitality, resilience, mental clarity and healthy ageing.<\/p>

    There he found something astonishing:
    Many of the issues discussed today under the heading of longevity were already the subject of Ayurvedic research and practice centuries ago.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    \n\t\t\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

    How do diet, lifestyle, relationships, mindset and the environment influence the quality of our lives? How do people maintain not only their health, but also their zest for life, their clarity of mind and their personal development?<\/p>

    Over many years, Ralph combined these insights with modern psychology, salutogenesis, behavioural medicine and the scientific principles underpinning research into healthy longevity.<\/p>

    And so two distinct paths developed independently of one another. One was shaped by European gerontology, Ana Aslan, Mircea Dumitru and the question of healthy ageing. The other was shaped by Ayurveda, Rasayana, psychology and the question of human development.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    It was not until many years later that these two worlds came into contact. As this happened, it became increasingly clear that:
    Health is more than just the absence of illness. Longevity is more than just living longer. And vitality is more than just physical fitness.<\/p>

    A long life needs a reason to be lived. The Japanese concept of ikigai describes what makes us happy to get up in the morning. Modern psychology refers to this as \u2018purpose\u2019. Salutogenesis refers to it as \u2018coherence\u2019. Ayurveda refers to it as \u2018dharma\u2019.<\/p>

    People no longer live longer simply because they look after their bodies. They live fuller, healthier lives \u2013 and often live longer too \u2013 when they find a sense of purpose.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    All these experiences eventually gave rise to a new idea. An idea that leaves the question of age behind.<\/p>

    Because the crucial question is not:<\/p>

    How old will we live to be?<\/p>

    But rather: how alive do we remain?<\/p>

    Perhaps that is precisely what has always been the underlying desire behind terms such as Gerovital, healthy ageing or longevity.<\/p>

    But Corina and Ralph wanted to shift the focus.<\/p>

    Away from old age.<\/p>

    Towards vitality.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Not as an alternative to Longevity.<\/p>

    Rather, as an extension of it.<\/p>

    A combination of gerontology and Rasayana.<\/p>

    From science and wisdom.<\/p>

    From Health and Beauty.<\/p>

    From purpose and prevention.<\/p>

    From the body, mind, relationships and environment.<\/p>

    The focus is not on prolonging life, but on enriching it.<\/p>

    For years of life alone are not enough.<\/p>
