Drawing on 30 years’ experience. For the Ayurvedic medicine of tomorrow.

A new dimension in Ayurvedic pharmacology

Three lecturers - three perspectives

Traditional pharmacology meets modern science

Traditional Ayurvedic medicine boasts an extraordinary wealth of medicinal plants, remedies and formulations – underpinned by a sophisticated body of knowledge, dating back thousands of years, concerning their properties and effects.

Modern scientific phytotherapy opens up new perspectives on plant-based active ingredients and their pharmacological properties. On this basis, Western medicinal plants can also be interpreted from an Ayurvedic perspective and incorporated into integrative formulation concepts.

In addition, orthomolecular medicine and research into marine natural products broaden the range to include vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and amino acids, enzymes, co-enzymes and bioactive substances derived from algae.

Drawing on 30 years of practising and teaching Ayurvedic pharmacology, something extraordinary is taking shape here: For the first time, we are bringing together classical Dravyaguna, modern scientific phytotherapy, Western medicinal plants, Rasa Shastra, orthomolecular medicine and research into marine natural products in a single specialist training programme.

A partnership that opens up new horizons, broadens familiar ways of thinking and leads Ayurvedic medicine into the future in an inspiring way.

You will learn to understand herbal medicines, traditional formulations and modern micronutrients in a nuanced way – in terms of their properties, mechanisms of action, scientific evidence and potential applications – and to classify them on a sound professional basis.

Dr Shubhangee Satam MD (Ayu)
Ralph Steuernagel | AYUMED
Dr Bettina Hees

Shubi is a classically trained Ayurvedic doctor and a recognised expert in Dravyaguna, with many years’ clinical and academic experience in India.

As an international guest lecturer at the AYUMED Academy, she teaches the classical Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia with particular depth and authenticity. Her focus in this specialist training course is on traditional monographs on medicinal plants, complex formulations and the mineral pharmacology of Rasa Shastra.

It combines the millennia-old tradition of Ayurvedic materia medica with a nuanced perspective on modern phytopharmacological findings.

Ralph is the director of the AYUMED Academy and has been practising and teaching the classical Ayurvedic pharmacology, Dravyaguna, for 30 years.

His particular area of expertise lies in the systematic integration of traditional Ayurvedic pharmacology with modern scientific phytotherapy, Western medicinal plants and orthomolecular medicine.

As an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner and lecturer, he develops integrative concepts for thinking and formulating remedies that adapt classical principles of medicine to modern European practice. At APO, he brings together the various systems of knowledge to create a new perspective on integrative medicine.

Bettina is a doctor specialising in prevention and orthomolecular medicine, and the founder of Medical Marine Research. Her particular area of expertise lies in research into marine active ingredients and algae (algology).

She conducts in-depth research into the medical potential of seaweed, marine polysaccharides, antioxidants and micronutrients – in particular fucoidan, astaxanthin and iodine.

In *APO*, she offers a fascinating insight into marine natural products research and explains how scientific findings can be applied in a nuanced way to prevention, nutritional support and integrative medicine.
