Hormonal disorders
Holistic diagnosis, counselling and therapy for
- Cycle and menstrual disorders
- Symptoms during perimenopause and the menopause
- Deficiencies in oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone
- stress-related hormonal imbalances
- hormonal disorders in men
Hormones never act on their own.
And neither do we humans.
Ralph Steuernagel
It is not the individual hormone that is decisive.
The three hormonal axes do not function independently of one another. They are linked via numerous feedback loops and influence one another.
A disruption in thyroid function can affect the menstrual cycle and sex hormones. Fluctuations in oestrogen and progesterone can influence metabolism, sleep, body temperature and mental well-being. Chronic stress and changes in cortisol levels can affect both systems.
That is why we do not consider the HPT, HPG and HPA axes in isolation, but rather in terms of how they interact. A laboratory result is always just a snapshot.
It is only when considered in the context of the patient’s stage of life and medical history that a complete picture emerges.
Women and Hormones
From the menstrual cycle through to pregnancy, perimenopause and the menopause, a woman’s hormonal balance undergoes constant changes.
Common issues we deal with at our practice include:
- Menstrual irregularities and painful periods
- premenstrual symptoms
- Symptoms during perimenopause and the menopause
- Hot flushes, impaired temperature regulation
- Sleep disturbances, exhaustion, loss of libido
- Mood swings, inner restlessness and changes in mental well-being
- Changes to the skin, hair and mucous membranes
- Changes in weight and metabolism
- Questions about hormone replacement therapy and bioidentical hormone therapy
During perimenopause in particular, changes in sex hormones, thyroid function, metabolism and stress regulation can occur simultaneously.
Men and Hormones
In men, too, the endocrine system changes as they get older.
Unlike during the menopause, changes in sex hormone levels usually occur more gradually and vary greatly from person to person.
Possible symptoms may include changes in energy levels and performance, muscle mass and body composition, libido and sexual function, sleep, mood or drive.
Where such symptoms are present, we therefore do not simply look at the testosterone level, but also at its hormonal context, influencing factors and the individual’s health situation.

MEDICAL HISTORY & CONSULTATION
Interpreting findings on a case-by-case basis
During a detailed consultation, we will discuss your current symptoms, medical history, previous diagnoses and treatments, as well as any questions you may have.
We always consider hormonal changes in the context of your individual circumstances. Your age and stage of life, medication, diet, sleep, exercise and other factors help us to interpret the findings and plan the next steps in your diagnosis.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
Involving the body
Following a detailed medical history, a physical examination tailored to the patient’s needs is carried out. This includes, in particular, visual inspection and palpation, as well as the assessment of physical signs that may indicate hormonal or metabolic changes.
Depending on the patient’s symptoms and the clinical picture, we may carry out additional selected diagnostic tests. We decide on a case-by-case basis which tests are appropriate – in a targeted manner and with a view to the resulting diagnostic and therapeutic implications.
LABORATORY DIAGNOSTICS
Measuring hormones in a differentiated manner
Which laboratory parameters are appropriate depends on the symptoms, age, gender, menstrual cycle or stage of life, and any existing diagnoses.
Depending on the specific issue, we analyse sex hormones and regulatory hormones, as well as relevant parameters relating to the thyroid, adrenal glands, metabolism and micronutrient status. In blood, urine and saliva.
STRESS & PSYCHOSOMATICS
Understanding the HPA axis
Chronic stress has a direct effect on hormonal regulation via the nervous system, the hypothalamus and the HPA axis.
That is why we also ask: What pressures are you under? How do you sleep? How do you recover? What links are there between stress, your mental wellbeing and your physical symptoms?
INTEGRATIVE DIAGNOSTICS
Looking at people as a whole
Depending on the specific issue at hand, we supplement modern medical diagnostics with functional, nutritional and selected traditional diagnostic approaches (Ayurveda, TCM, TEN).
Not every test is appropriate for every person. Diagnostics should be targeted and should inform the course of further treatment.
Understand. Contextualise. Support.
Hormonal problems are usually complex and cannot always be explained by a single laboratory result. I particularly often support patients in the following situations:
- Your symptoms suggest a hormonal cause, although no satisfactory explanation has been found.
- In your view, your lab results and how you feel do not match up.
- You experience severe symptoms during your period, perimenopause or the menopause.
- You would like to gain a better understanding of the links between the thyroid, sex hormones and stress hormones.
- You suspect that chronic stress is a contributing factor to your hormonal problems.
- You would like a second medical opinion and an integrative approach.
- You have questions about bioidentical hormones or an existing course of hormone therapy.
Hormonal health has more than one aspect.
Laboratory test results and hormonal feedback loops are important.
However, they do not tell the whole story of a person.
That is why we examine hormonal disorders from three interrelated perspectives.

Holistic Medicine • Psychology • Wisdom
To begin with, we’ll take the time to discuss your medical history, symptoms, existing diagnostic findings, current medication or treatment, and any personal questions you may have.
On this basis, we carry out a detailed assessment of your health.
We will then decide together which further diagnostic tests are appropriate and which treatment options are best suited to you and your current stage of life.
EURASIAMED does not replace specialist gynaecological, urological or endocrinological diagnosis and treatment, but rather complements them.

Understanding Hormones
Knowledge provides guidance.
Hormones influence almost every aspect of our lives – and their complex interactions cannot be reduced to individual laboratory test results.
In my videos, I explain hormonal relationships in a way that is both easy to understand and medically nuanced. In doing so, I combine the latest scientific findings with the integrative approach of EURASIAMED.
